Frequently asked questions

Answers about materials and quality, how a project runs, working with architects, and careers at Schurig.

Materials and quality

What is veneer, and how does it differ from a decor panel?

Veneer is real wood: a thin layer on a stable substrate. This gives even large surfaces a calm, continuous wood grain, and scratches can often be refinished. A decor panel, by contrast, carries printed paper under synthetic resin.

What is HPL, and where is it worth using?

HPL (high-pressure laminate) is a very hard, scratch- and heat-resistant surface that is easy to wipe clean. It is worth using wherever surfaces see heavy use: counters, countertops, retail fit-out and restaurants.

Which surface suits which use?

Lacquer is durable and easy to care for, good for surfaces that see heavy use. Surfaces finished with wood butter look natural and are easy to touch up. Super-matte surfaces show hardly any fingerprints. We will advise you on which surface suits your use.

How do I care for veneer and lacquered surfaces?

A slightly damp, soft cloth is all you need. Do not use abrasive cleaners, and do not leave water standing on the surface. Minor damage can be refinished in many cases, so please get in touch with us.

How does custom work differ from mass-produced furniture?

Custom work is built for the room: fitted precisely to wall and ceiling, with the material and finish of your choice, installed by our own team. A well-built piece of furniture can be repaired instead of replaced.

How a project runs

How does a project with Schurig work?

Consultation and site measurement, shop drawings in IMOS with a 3D view of the key areas, samples for approval, production in Bönnigheim, and installation by our own team.

Can I see my project before production?

Yes. You see it in the shop drawings, in a 3D view of the key areas and as samples. Production starts only after your approval.

Can I see material samples?

Yes. We present surfaces, edges and materials to you before production starts.

Who installs the furniture?

Our own installation team.

Do you also work abroad?

Yes. We manufacture in Bönnigheim and install in Germany and abroad.

How does the furniture get abroad?

The cabinets travel by sea freight, packed in crates. Customs is handled by your own customs department or by our freight forwarder. Installation takes place in Germany and worldwide.

What does high-quality interior fit-out cost?

There is no price list for custom work. The price depends mainly on material, finish, scope and installation location. Send us plans or photos for a quote.

Can I visit the workshop?

Yes, gladly, by appointment in Bönnigheim.

For architects

Do you also work from my architect’s plans?

Yes. The design remains your architect’s design; we turn it into shop drawings.

In which formats do we exchange plans?

We take over your plans as DWG or PDF. You receive the shop drawings for approval as PDF, and on request also as DWG or as a file for the IMOS Viewer.

When should we bring you in?

We come on board with finished plans or already during the design phase. Firms often ask us how a detail can be built before it is drawn.

Do you bid on tenders?

Yes. We bid on bills of quantities as GAEB files, PDF or Excel and, on request, help with writing the specifications.

Will you come to our office?

Yes, gladly. We will go through your plans together at your office.

Which firms have you worked with?

With architecture firms from Stuttgart, Munich and Berlin, among others on showrooms, exhibition stands, offices, hotels and private homes. The Projects page shows a selection.
